The Day Fear Left

Mualim shared with his friend Jamshed about his daughter who had been sick for several weeks. She had been walking by a graveyard and had been scared by jinn (evil spirits) resulting in her becoming very sick and weak. “What can I do?”, Mualim asked. “The mullah (Muslim spiritual leader) prayed for her and told us to do extra prayers but nothing is helping my daughter.”

Jamshed was a follower of Jesus and boldly offered to pray for his sick daughter.

That evening they gathered for a meal in Mualim’s apartment. After the meal Mualim brought his daughter into the room. She was hunched over, weak and appeared very frightened. Maulim said his daughter’s name was Safargul and again gave permission for Jamshed to pray in the name of Jesus.

“Holy Spirit come! Safargul, you are God’s treasured possession. He created you, He knows you and loves you with a love like no other. Be healed in the name of Jesus!”.

At that moment a wind blew open the curtains and filled the room and Safargul clutched her stomach and shouted out, “Tars raft”. Here fear was gone!

The next day she was up and working around the home as if nothing had happened. Mualim, a devout Muslim, was now open to hearing more about Jesus the Messiah.

In Tajikistan, there is a strong folk Islamic influence that operates through fortunetellers, witch doctors, and veneration of the tombs of local Islamic saints. Many people, especially women, visit these looking for supernatural solutions to their daily problems. They know that these forces are probably not good ones, but they don’t know of any other place to turn.

Prayer Ideas:

  • Pray that the Holy Spirit will manifest God’s power to show those in bondage to the fear of evil spirits that Jesus is more powerful.
  • Pray that miracles and healings in Jesus’ name will become daily occurrences in Tajikistan.
  • Pray that God will add to the number of believers daily as a result of these Holy Spirit power encounters.
  • Ask for God to be ultimately glorified above all other powers in Tajikistan.
  • Pray against the powers of darkness behind these fortunetellers, and shrine priests.
